THE 2014 GLOBAL PASTRY CHEFS CHALLENGE CHAMP AT 85ºC IN HACIENDA HEIGHTS
This morning, the 2014 Global Pastry Chefs Challenge champ made an appearance at the 85ºC Bakery Café in Hacienda Heights to introduce two new desserts for the holiday season. But before the small audience was allowed to taste the Chocolate Ganache Cake and Mango Pumpkin Pie, Chef Chen Li-Che gave demos, showing how the banana filling is prepared for the former, and the decorative swirls are applied to the latter. Cool!
• The Chocolate Ganache Cake is lighter than one might expect from a slice of chocolate-on-chocolate, and has a layer of nuts in the crust to add contrasting texture and a different type of sweetness. This treat will be introduced for the Thanksgiving season.
• The Mango Pumpkin Pie is 85ºC’s Halloween treat. It’s delicious, and gives a twist to all-American pumpkin cheesecake with lightly sweet mango puree sauce and Chantilly crème on top and a hint of coconut in its delicate crust.
These specials are just for us in the San Gabriel Valley and not our friends and families in Asia. It’s their time to be jealous. In addition, 85ºC locations in the U.S. will have photo booths (where you can take photos and get 10 percent off your order right away) and employees will be in costume!
But wait, there’s more. The 85ºC flagship store in Hacienda Heights has partnered with One Town One Product (OTOP) Taiwan to create a gift shop of hand-selected specialty items that very from traditional housewares to modern accessories. What they have in common is that they are made by local artisans, and have been gathered for your convenience at 85ºC.
What’s better than knocking out some holiday shopping at the same time you’re trying a limited-edition dessert and getting your sea-salt coffee fix? Can’t wait to see what they offer next… Happy Valentine’s Day to us.
