NOVEMBER 28, 2014    Around Town Pasadena      BY CARLY ZINDERMAN

85°C Bakery was founded in Taiwan and has over 700 stores worldwide to date. Luckily, one of the stores opened in our neck of the woods — Old Pasadena — in October and has already developed quite the following, thanks to its popular “Sea Salt Coffee” and bread and confections.

The new spot is open at Fair Oaks and Green St and while some have complained about the tricky parking situation, others are happy to have 90 minutes of free parking at the Schoolhouse Structure, across the street, in order to have plenty of time to choose from the astounding array of delicious treats.

Thanks to the already popular bakery’s confections, Pasadena fans no longer have to drive to Hacienda Heights, West Covina or a further location to enjoy treats like mango panna cotta, more pastries than I can name, breads and the famously addictive “Sea Salt Coffee” to wash it all down. Oh, and there’s a big boba selection too.

Pasadena’s pastry lovers aren’t the ones that are excited to get some goodies. According to the press release accompanying the opening, the 85°C team are also happy to have the new location.

“We always had a strong ambition to open an 85°C Bakery Cafe in Pasadena, an incredibly historical and cultured city,” said Stephanie Peng (Public Relations Manager). “So now that the grand opening is right around the corner (now open), we are so thrilled! We look forward to bringing our famous Sea Salt Coffee and the “Fresh Bread!” experience to this city!”

And lest you are wondering about the name, it comes from founder Wu Cheng-Hsueh’s belief that 85°C is the perfect temperature for serving coffee.

Check out the “Starbucks of Taiwan” online at http://85cafe.us and at its new location filled with sweets and savories and  specials at 61 S Fair Oaks Ave, Suite 120, Pasadena, CA 91105.
